Winfried Löffler

Winfried Löffler, *1965, specializes in philosophy of science, philosophy of religion, metaphysics and epistemology. He holds degrees in philosophy (Dr.phil. Innsbruck University 1995, Dr. phil.habil. Munich School of Philosophy 2004), Law (Dr.iur. Innsbruck 1991) and Theology (Mag.theol. Innsbruck 1992) and is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Christian Philosophy at the University of Innsbruck. Winfried is a regular guest lecturer at the University of Zagreb and the Brixen School of Philosophy and Theology. He served for many years as vice-president of the Austrian Society for Philosophy and is currently the President of the Austrian Society for Philosophy of Religion. At his faculty, Winfried serves as Vice Dean of Studies in Philosophy.

Winfried’s special field of interest are the implicit rational (and sometimes irrational) structures in world-views, and the similarities and dissimilarities of reasoning, justification and explanation in sciences, religion and all-day thought. In the history of philosophy, Winfried is a specialist in the thought of Bernard Bolzano (1781-1848) and other exponents of early analytic philosophy. Winfried authored a standard introduction to the philosophy of religion (2006, 3rd. edition 2019), an introduction to logic (2008) and more than 200 scholarly books, papers, dictionary entries and major book reviews.
